Muriel J. Ahlstrom passed away Thursday January 29, 2004 at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun, WI at the age of 94. She was born August 2, 1909 to William C.B. and J. Cecil (Smith) Showers in Elroy, WI. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1927 and from the La Crosse Teacher's College (now UW-La Crosse) in 1931. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education majoring in English and history. She married Arvid R. Ahlstrom on September 17, 1932 and moved to Eau Claire where she resided until June 2002. 
 

Muriel was very active in her church, Lake Street United Methodist, and in many civic organizations including the Eau Claire Women's Club, Luther Hospital Auxiliary and Church Women United. She was often called upon to be a leader in these organizations and did so with great dedication. 

Muriel enjoyed volunteering her time and talents and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, delivered meals with her husband for Meals on Wheels, answered phones for the Tele-care program, and worked in the gift shops at Luther Hospital and the Chippewa Valley Museum.

Muriel is survived by two sons: Donald of Seattle, WA and William (Joyce) of St. Charles MO and two daughters: Jayne (George) Dee of Wheaton, IL and Sesaly (Dennis) Overlien of Waupun, WI, seven grandchildren: Lisa (Greg) Dee-Fister of Little Silver, New Jersey, Thomas (Lynn) Dee of Wheaton, IL, Scott (Dana) Ahlstrom of Boise, Idaho, Callie (Shane) Dykstra of Waupun, Benjamin (Janiel) Overlien of Chippewa Falls, Joshua Overlien of Fond du Lac, and Zachary Overlien of Chippewa Falls, ten great grandchildren: Emerson and Bailey Fister, Ashley, Muriel, and Garrett Dee, Danielle and Derek Ahlstrom, Abigail Mueller, Gabriel Dykstra, and Xander Overlien. She is also survived by one brother: W. Wallace Showers of Sparta, WI. Her parents, two sisters, and her husband Arvid who passed away in 1988 preceded Muriel in death.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday February 2, 2004 at the Lake Street United Methodist Church in Eau Claire. The Rev. Doyle Blanton will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Friends may call at the church from 11 AM on Monday until the time of services. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lake Street United Methodist Church or Luther Hospital Auxiliary. Friends may sign the guest book online at www.fullerspeckien.com.
