James A. Berman, Sr., 74, of Eau Claire, died June 18, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of St. Joseph Hospice. 
 
   He was born June 6, 1932 to William and Marie Berman and raised in Eau Claire.  In 1950, he joined the U.S. Army Airborne and served until July, 1953 when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion Post 53. 

 
Jim worked at Gould National Battery for 16years. He also worked for Mattice Roofing and Cornell Roofing, retiring in 1993. Jim was a longtime volunteer for the St. Francis Food Pantry in Eau Claire, and was also a volunteer for the Union Township Fire Dept.
  
Jim was married in Eau Claire on November 13, 1955 to Dorothy Crain. 
 
James is survived by four children, James Berman, Jr. (Jean), Debra Schlattman (Rich), David Berman (Glenda), Jeff Berman (Sarah); grandchildren, Jennie, Alan, Andrew, Jacob, LaShawn, Anthony, Nick, Amanda, Zack and Marie; great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Blake, Lacota, Caleb; his sister, Joyce Glenna; his brothers, William, Don, Herb and Phillip. 
 
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy; his parents; step-father; two brothers, David & Dickie; granddaughter, Tessa; and grandson, David Jr.
 
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 22 at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home with Monsignor Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. 
 
Visitation hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
