She is best known for her commitment to teaching and her family and friends. Her wisdom, humor and kindness were the qualities that distinguished her life in this community. Her students often contacted her to express their appreciation for how she had touched their lives. She was always proud of them and their accomplishments. She took great joy in advising the High School Yearbook Staff.
Mary was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was one of the first women to serve as an Elder. She was an active member of P.E.O. chapter BE and a strong member of the Democratic Party. She delighted in playing Bridge, golfing and spending summer at her cottage on Pulaski Lake.
Mary not only contributed to her profession, but also to her family as a model of courage and forward thinking, no matter the size of the adversity. It will be this quality that her family takes forward.
Her parents, her first husband Harold “Boots” Martin and her second husband Walter Blackseth and her Brother-in-Law Carroll Kierstead preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by her sister Alice Kierstead, Alice’s friend Carl Mickelson of Eau Claire, her daughter Sue Mautz (Bill) of Portsmouth NH, her son James Martin recently of Eau Claire as caregiver, her step-daughter Penny Beckel (Tom) of Shakopee, MN, her daughter-in-law Diane Martin of Eau Claire, her granddaughter Carie Martin Krajewski (Keith), her grandsons William T. Mautz (Johanna) of Exeter, NH, Christopher S. Mautz (Amy) of Salt Lake City, UT, and Anthony J. Mautz (Amy) of Holiday, UT, and nine great grandchildren, Adam and Alex Krajewski, Grace, Teddy and Kate Mautz, Charlotte and Claire Mary Mautz, and Sophia and Avery Mautz.
Memorials may be given in Mary’s name to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Democratic Candidate in the Presidential Election. Friends may offer their condolences online at www.fullerspeckien.com.
