John Harnit Carson, age 80, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin formerly of Gibson City, Illinois died on Saturday April 14, 2007 at his home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday April 19, 2007 at Lamb Funeral home in Gibson City, Illinois with The Reverend John Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Lee Lowery American Legion Post #568 of Gibson City. His visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Carson was born June 19, 1926 in Bloomington, Illinois a son of Paul and Elizabeth (Harnit) Carson. He married Luella Mae (Rasor) Foster September15, 1951 in Dwight, Illinois. She died June 21, 1997.
Surviving are his children F. Jay (Rita) Foster of Danville, Illinois; DuAnne (David) Edwards of Marshall, Wisconsin; John David (Gloria) Carson of Dana Point, California and Douglas (Margaret) Carson of Champaign, Illinois. Seven grandchildren; Kristine (Greg) Curry, Nicole (Brad) Fulton, Kim (Scott) Parry, Angela (Ron) Roloff, Katie Foster, Jonathan Carson and Rachel Carson, two great grandchildren - Olivia and Ryan Fulton and one sister Catherine Sherrard. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Helen Coffey Carson; one brother - Paul Carson and one sister - Betty Ann Kleindienst.

Mr. Carson was a Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater in World War 11. He was a crew member of the first ship to port in Nagasaki, Japan after the atomic bomb. |
He is a graduate of Drummer Township High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1950. Mr. Carson's father, Paul, founded Carson Motor Company in Gibson City where he worked for many years. He retired after 26 years of service to the FDIC in 1994. He worked in field offices in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
A long-suffering Chicago Cubs fan, Mr. Carson also loved to attend University of Illinois football games with his family. He was a Police Magistrate of Gibson City and belonged to the Flying Club and Roadrunners Camping Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, and relished his trips to his family home in Blue Lake Canada. He loved to fish with his children and took many wonderful fishing trips to Kasaba Lake, Canada. A Diamond Club Membership had been awarded to him for catching a lake trout in excess of forty pounds. John frequented the Eau Claire Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Fiercely devoted to his family, his unconditional love and support will be missed by all who knew him.
