Lila Menly Gilbertson, 89, formerly of 525 Cochrane Street, Eau Claire, and most recently of Grace Edgewood, Altoona, died July 30, 2007.
 
Lila was born March 10, 1918, to Nels Henry and Menly (Johnson) Gilbertson at Elk Mound, Wisconsin, along with her twin sister Violet Jennie Gilbertson, who died June 17, 1918.
 
Lila graduated from Elk Mound High School in 1936 and from the Eau Claire Business College in 1937. She was employed at Benson Optical Company for 9 years, Walker Brothers, Inc., for 4 years, and the State of Wisconsin, Division of Corrections, for 27 years, retiring on January 5, 1979.

 
Lila was a long time member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, served as president of the YPS for several years, and also worked as church secretary.
 
Lila loved writing poetry and was often asked to write poems for specific celebrations. She published "Poems for Pleasure" in 1980, a Family History in 1981, and her own Autobiography in 1984. 
 
Lila especially enjoyed her 11 nieces and nephews and their spouses as well her 23 grandnieces and nephews and 14 great-grandnieces and nephews. 
 
Lila made a special effort to visit friends and relatives at the area nursing homes.
 
She is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Gilbertson (LaVerne) and her nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceeded in death by her sisters: Florence Stange (Gerald), Alvina Swanson (Walter), Edna Enarson (Ernie), Violet Gilbertson; her brother, LaVerne Gilbertson; and her nephew, Jerry Stange.
 
A memorial service will be held on August 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in the Fireside Room with Pastor Rodney Venberg officiating. Burial will be at Barum Cemetery, rural Elk Mound. Memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Grace Edgewood Assisted Living.
