Wayne Holland of Eau Claire peacefully passed Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Luther Hospital into a better realm after surviving nearly four years with advanced lung cancer. He was a life long non-smoker and thought the cancer to be the only small bit of bad luck in an otherwise fortunate life.
Throughout his treatment, Wayne continually praised his health care professionals both in Eau Claire and Rochester Mayo for their commitment to see that he had the best quality of life possible.
Wayne was humbled by and grateful for the care, generosity, and dedication shown to him by his family and friends here, across the United States, and in Europe.

He was a proud veteran and felt privileged to serve his country in the United States Air Force. His tour of duty included a year in Vietnam.
Wayne had a 32-year career with Xcel Energy. Most of this time was spent in the Protection and Electric Maintenance Department. He worked with a "can do" team whose challenging jobs brought out their best qualities. He found Xcel to be a company with a heart for the loyal and compassionate way they treated him after his cancer diagnosis. |
Wayne enjoyed walking, hiking, biking, travel, time spent in his shop and time spent with his family and cats. His interests were extremely diverse and ranged between anything mechanical to the history of Europe.
He thought that he was lucky enough to have lived a life filled with much happiness and few regrets. If pressed for his biggest regret, he would say that having to leave so soon the people that he cared for so much.
Wayne leaves behind his wife, Mary and his mother, Dee and many wonderful friends plus his two "armchair buddies" Boscoe and Baxter.
