Ivan Joseph Melland, 81, died unexpectedly at home on July 1, 2007. Ivan was born on June 11, 1926 to Theodore and Blanche (Stokes) Melland. He attended Eau Claire Schools.
 
Prior to his marriage to Shirley Ann Belden on August 31, 1946, he had traveled to Great Lakes as a merchant marine when only 17 years old. After his marriage, he worked the majority of his life at Chandler-Wilbert Vault Co. in Chippewa Falls. Ivan retired at the age of 59. He enjoyed his trips to his cabin at Wascott, with his family, especially his brothers. He loved the Packers and casinos.
 
After the death of his wife in 1979, he met and shared 22 years with Leora Jorgenson, whom also preceded him in death.

 
He loved being active and was always busy doing something from building to cooking and sewing. He could do it all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
 
Ivan is survived by his daughter Linda (Steven) Backstrom, son, Steven Melland, sisters, Carol Fischer of Las Vegas, NV, and June Peterson of Altoona, brothers, Ted (Donna) Melland of Osseo, Douglas (Debbie) Melland of Jim Falls and Richard Norman Melland of Eau Claire, 3 grandchildren, Tony Smith, Angela Fischer, and Benj Melland, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
 
Ivan was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phoebe; brothers, Robert, Gerald, Eugene, Emil; and his daughter-in-law, Margaret.
 
Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road on Thursday, July 5th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of services. The funeral service will be Friday, July 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Page officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
