James R. Persons, age 81, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Syverson Lutheran Home.

James was born March 26, 1926 to Ray and Jenny Persons. At the age of 13, he went to live with Marge and Ray Backus. He joined the Army and served during WWII. After the service, he married Audrey Gunderzik on June 24, 1950. James worked at First Wisconsin Bank for 38 years, achieving Senior Vice President. James was a founding member of Ducks Unlimited and Indianhead. He taught hunters safety for a number of years. He was also a member of the Rod & Gun Club, VFW and American Legion and many other groups. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and he enjoyed many years at their cottage in Minong. James enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada with the fishing buddies, and hunting at Dr. Leasom's farm in Price. He was active in many auctions around the city and enjoyed thrift sales.

Survived by wife, Audrey of 57 years; son, David (Nancy); daughter, Janice (Mike) McMahon; grandchildren, Jill (Andrew) Aldrich, Kayla McMahon, Katie Persons;
great grandsons, Peyton Aldrich and Gavin Smith; sister-in-laws, Patricia Blake,
Bernadine Gonderzik, and Jeanne Gunderzik; and many nieces, nephews, friends and special neighbors. |
He was preceded in death by; parents; in-laws; brothers, George, Harley, and Don; sisters, Marge Backus, Lois Rossow, Betty Brunner and Nora Persons; brother-in laws, Ray Backus, Gordy Gonderzik, Robert Gunderzik, and Robert Rossow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
Memorial Services will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Eugene Klink will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery following the service. Friends may call at the church Wednesday morning from 11 am until the time of services.
