Charlotte J. Roberts, age 84 of Eau Claire, died Friday, November 9, 2007 at Dove Healthcare.
Charlotte was born on June 22, 1923 in Shell Lake, WI. At the death of her mother at age four and a half years, she was adopted by Jack and Christine (Shroder) Klund of Bloomer, WI, where she was baptized, confirmed and grew up. She was a graduate of Bloomer High School; was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomer where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
After graduation, Charlotte worked at the Bloomer Electric Co. and then at an egg plant which was started during World War II. She was always interested in nursing and went to Superior, WI where she worked at St. Mary's Hospital. There she earned nursing credits toward becoming a nurse.
Charlotte met and married Donald E. Roberts on May 12, 1943 in Superior, WI. When her husband joined the Navy to serve in the war, she moved back to Bloomer, then Chippewa Falls. When Donald came home, they moved to Eau Claire and Charlotte went back to nursing at Sacred Heart Hospital where over time she was able to write her state boards and become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Charlotte worked many years at Sacred Heart Hospital and then worked at Syverson Lutheran Home. She retired in 1985 due to health problems.
She was active in the Red Cross, Chippewa Valley LPN Association for many years; a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Esther Circle and Christian Women's Club.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, Donald Roberts, (Eau Claire); son, Daniel Roberts (Eau Claire); daughter, Cheryl Rittschoff (Taylor, WI); half-sister, Deon Winchester (Witchita Falls, TX); aunt, Maxine Rosenbrook (Bloomer, WI); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Thelma Winchester; her parents, Christine and Jack Klund; sister, Beverly Kraus; brothers, Keith Hutchinson and Warren Wingad; and great niece Brittney Conway.
Charlotte will be remembered for her love of God, family, books, music, cats and deep caring for other people.
A funeral service for Charlotte will be held at 11:00 am. on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire. Friends may call at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire on Monday evening from 4-6 pm. and again at church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
