Amanda Rudolph, age 92 of Eau Claire, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Clairemont Nursing Home. She was born April 4, 1915 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
On March 27, 1946, Amanda married Christiaan Leyder Havenstroom in
Malang, Indonesia, where they ran the Protestant Youth Home. Amanda and her husband had a daughter, Ingrid, born just two years before Christiaan died on Christmas Eve 1952. For the next three years, Amanda carried on as director of the youth home.
In 1955, Amanda and Inge resettled in the Netherlands, where Amanda worked as a social worker, assisting other Indonesian refugees transition into Dutch culture. In January 1961, Amanda and Inge immigrated to America, and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area.

There, Amanda married Dick Rudolph-an acquaintance from Indonesia and Holland-on February 5, 1961. Coming to a new country with few possessions, Amanda worked as a housekeeper while Dick worked as a mechanic. Even though they had little, Amanda was always caring for the needs of others. Eventually, she became a companion to the elderly. She lovingly cared for many elderly women even until their last days. She was always generous with her time, her money and her love for people.
In retirement, Amanda and Dick were able to travel and enjoy many activities together. In her later years, as her body began to bring limitations to her lifestyle, Amanda continued to learn and challenge her mind through activities such as playing Scrabble on the computer.
Amanda is survived by her husband, Dick, and her daughter, Inge (Dudley) Donaldson, of Eau Claire. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Christiaan.
Above all, Amanda loved God. She knew that her sins were forgiven only by the death of Jesus Christ, God's Son, on the cross. It was God's grace that allowed her a long and fruitful life here on earth, and it is by His grace that she is rejoicing in His presence today and forevermore.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1805 Goff Avenue, Eau Claire, with Rev. John van Gorkom officiating.
