Katharyn J. Savides, age 80 of Eau Claire, passed away Sunday afternoon December 2, 2007, of heart failure at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi. 
 
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire, WI. The Rev. Dr. Mark X. Pirazzini will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Church Memorial Garden. Friends may call at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 4-7 pm and at the church on Thursday morning from 10 am until the time of services.
 
Katie was born on April 16, 1927 in Madison, WI to Frank and Hazel (Mead) Jenks. She graduated from Madison West High School. In 1949, Katharyn graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with her husband. Later in life she obtained her Master's Degrees in Special Education and English from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. 

  
Katie married James M. Savides on August 28, 1948 at the First Congregational Church in Madison. 
 
She taught English Composition at UW-Eau Claire and Special Education at Sunburst Youth Homes. Katie loved to crochet, making bedspreads, blankets, and hats for infants. Katie was an active member of First Congregational Church where she taught bible study and participated in the church choir. She loved classical music and will be remembered for always humming a tune. She really enjoyed reading a good murder mystery. Her life revolved around her husband and her children. Katie was known for a generous heart and her gracious hospitality.
 
Survivors include her husband, James of Eau Claire; children, John (Phyllis) of Charlottesville, VA; Paul (Peggy) of Mondovi, WI; Betsy Savides (Terri Campman) of Vashon Island, WA; Ann Savides Dolan of Lancaster, WI; and Stephen (Diane) Savides of Appleton, WI; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy H. Jenks of Eau Claire; and dear friend, Annie Bailey of Eau Claire. 
 
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Franklin Jenks; sister, Marguerite Schnieder; and grandson, Peter Leo Dolan.
 
Memorials may be given in Katharyn's name to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
