Alberta Linora Wood (Mrs. Charles Wood), age
89 of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday,
October 21, 2007 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona.
Funeral services for Alberta will be at 11:00
a.m. on October 26, 2007 at First
Congregational United Church of Christ. The
Rev. Dr. Mark X. Pirazzini will officiate.
Private family burial will be at Forest Hill
Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids, Wood County,
Wisconsin.
Alberta was born on January 29, 1918 to Vernon
and Mildred (Raymond) Barager.
She graduated from Owen High School in May 1935, where she was very active in cheerleading and working with the family newspaper (Owen Enterprise).

Alberta graduated with a nursing degree from Luther Hospital in October 1939. Where, with the exception of the "War Years", she worked until the late1950's as a nurse and later became the first woman school bus driver for Eau Claire Student Transit and enjoyed driving for several years.
She met her husband, Charles, at Luther hospital and married him on September 2, 1941 in Owen, WI.
Alberta enjoyed dancing, was active in the Eau Claire Service League, and strongly supported the social activities of Wood Motor Company. She also enjoyed traveling, being at their cottage, and family fellowship. Alberta and Chuck were among the first to introduce water skiing in the area in the early 1950's from their trips to Acapulco.
She is survived by: her sons, Guy (Judy) Wood and John (Joan) Wood; grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Anne (Will) Marshall, Grant, Jenna and Kate Wood; and step-grandchildren, Dan (Kelly) Palm and Matt (Anne) Palm and great-grandchildren, Emily and Ashley Marshall and Nathan, Danielle and Marcus Palm.
Alberta was preceded in death by: her husband; her brothers, James and John Barager and sister, Joyce Salo; and her parents.
Memorials can be directed in Alberta's name to First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Friends may call at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire on Friday, October 26, from 9:00 until time of service.
