Leo Joseph Zuber Jr., age 57, of Eau Claire died Sunday at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, Wis. after a long battle with brain cancer. 

Leo was born on March 9, 1949 in Worcester, Mass. The eldest son in a family of six children, he grew up in Decatur, Georgia where he graduated from Saint Pius X High School in 1967. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Georgia State University and then worked as a merchandise buyer for Sears-Roebuck in Atlanta, Georgia for 13 years. In 1977, he married Nancy Alice Bowers. After the birth of his two children, Mary Grace and Andrew, he returned to school for a second Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Upon graduation in 1985, he accepted an engineering position with Northern States Power in Eau Claire where he worked until his diagnosis in 2000.

 
Leo was a devoted husband and father. He assisted with Little League coaching and was a dedicated fan at his son's hockey games. Leo also enjoyed bicycling and hunting, and during his years in the South, he was an amateur but avid scuba diver and underwater photographer. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life, and he enjoyed attending a men's Bible Study through Immaculate Conception Church.
 
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Mary Grace of Brooklyn, New York; his son, Andrew of Lafayette, Louisiana; his brothers: Thomas (Alice) Zuber of Cary, NC; Peter (Leslie) Zuber of Springville, UT; and Paul (Carol) Zuber of Longmont, CO; his sisters: Patricia Zuber of Richmond, VA and Mary Estrada of Austin, TX. 
 
He was predeceased by his parents Leo Joseph Sr. and Mary Blanche Zuber of Decatur, Georgia. 
 
A funeral mass will held at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 27 at Immaculate Conception Church, 1722 Highland Ave, Eau Claire, with Father Eugene Klink officiating. Friends may call on Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Rd, Eau Claire on Monday, February 26 from 5 - 7 pm and again at the church one hour prior to services.
