Daniel H. Aasen, 90, was graciously granted the gift of peacefully departing from his earthly body on August 3, 2008 surrounded by his family at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. After many years of gracefully dealing with the challenges of chronic pain, this was a gift much appreciated.
Dan was born on May 31, 1918 to Oscar and Agnes Aasen near Eleva, WI.
Dan was no stranger to hard work, raised on a farm near Eleva. He and his brother David delivered the now famous Silver Springs Horseradish door to door. He was employed by Uniroyal Tire Company for 42 years until he retired in 1980.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946. He served in various locations in the Military Police Unit, and also, as he referred to himself, "the best darn cook in the Army".
He met the love of his life, Ruth Harwood, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin while on military leave. They were married on April 20, 1946 and were completely devoted to each other during their over 62 years of marriage.
Dan showered his family with love, attention, and security. Many precious memories were made during many years of boating, water skiing, and camping in "the bus". Many summers were spent in northern Wisconsin, most notably at Lake Owen making new friends, meeting old friends, and being a family. Dan would allow the family to camp, even when he was working, commuting from Eau Claire on his days off. |
He was preceded in death by a son Jeffery, grandson Cole Exner, parents Oscar and Agnes, and his sisters Ruth Hawes and Esther Bozart. He was also preceded in death by his beloved dogs Smokey and Whimpy.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, a brother David, Seattle, WA, children John Aasen, Las Cruces, NM, Julie (Jim) Harnisch, Eau Claire, WI, Michael (Carol) Aasen, Chippewa Falls, WI, Janie (Scott) Exner, Lisle, IL, and Tom (Toma) Aasen, San Diego, CA. and 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A private gathering with the immediate family was held in San Diego, CA. A celebration of Dan's live will be held at a later date in Eau Claire, WI.
