Ruth P. Becker, 86, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, after a brief stay at the Oakwood Villa Nursing Home, under the care of Northwest Wisconsin Hospice and presence of family.
 
Ruth was born on October 3, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, daughter of John and Lucille Nowicki. She attended St. Lawrence Grade School and received scholarships to attend Mercy High School, graduating in 1940. She continued her education at the Business Institute of Milwaukee and attended Marquette University for one year. 

   Ruth enlisted in the Navy WAVES and served between 1944-1946. 
She married George Becker in 1946 and then moved to Minneapolis while he attended the University of Minnesota. Ruth and George moved to Eau Claire in 1950. She worked for the City of Eau Claire, Seyberth Insurance and for 17 years at Pranges. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at the Sacred Heart Hospital Gift Shop and the L. E. Phillips Senior Center.
 

 
Ruth was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona for 55 years and was involved in many organizations and activities. She was also a member of the Altoona Womens Club. She loved the game of golf, playing bridge and 500, and visiting with all her family and friends. Ruth had a passion for reading and writing, as she kept a daily journal for the past 15 years, with her last journal entry on October 10. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George; sister and brother-in-law Edna (Norman) Stickney and their daughter, Ruth Ann. Ruth is survived by her children Georgeann (Erick Stowe) Becker of Englewood, CO, JoAnn (Ron) Decker of Eau Claire, WI, Thomas (Kathy) Becker of Easley, SC, James (Eva DiMartino) Becker of St. Charles, IL, Mary (Brian) Yaklich of Lakewood, CO, and Barbara (Brad) Neill of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren Sarah and Meghan Stowe, Abe (Jen) Ryder, Rochelle Connell, Jennifer (Matthew Clark) Becker, Scott and Michael Becker, J.D. and Lucy Yaklich, Mitchell and Brianna Neill; future great-grandson Evan Ryder; and numerous nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-laws. 
 
A funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona, WI, with Father Wagner officiating. Friends may call at church on Friday evening from 4-7 P.M. and again one hour prior to Mass. Entombment will be at the Chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to L. E. Phillips Senior Center, Northwest Hospice and Homecare, or St. Mary's Church.
