Gladys M. Cairns, 80, of Eagan, MN and Eau Claire, WI died on Friday, February 1, 2008 surrounded by her children at The Lodge on Summit Oaks hospice in Burnsville.
Gladys was born Dec. 13, 1927 in Madison, WI to Albert and
Ella Pfahler. She graduated from West High School in Madison and married Frank E. Cairns on September 1, 1951 in Madison. She was an active volunteer for Immaculate Conception Church and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire for many years. She was an employee of Control Data Corporation in Chippewa Falls; ITT Thorp, UW Eau Claire Business School, and Pleasant Company. She loved to cook and bake for her friends, family, and co-workers. She crocheted blankets for all of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed camping in northern Wisconsin. She enjoyed socializing with her neighbors in Eau Claire and at The Commons on Marice in Eagan.

She is survived by her children Gregory of Denver, CO; Jeffrey (Katherine) of St. Paul; and Deborah Girard (Jay) of Eagan, MN; brother Frederick Pfahler (Lorraine); and six adored grandchildren Jennifer (Nicholas) Kadrlik, Derek Girard, Alec Cairns, Peter, Katie and Kevin Cairns and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in her death by her beloved husband Frank; her parents Albert and
Ella Pfahler; her brothers Albert Pfahler and Donald Pfahler and sisters Arlene Bacon and Josephine Shipman.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father E. Klink officiating. Friends may call at church one hour prior to services. Entombments will be at Chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum.
Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at The Commons on Marice, Davita Dialysis and the Lodge for the wonderful care they provided to Gladys. Memorials are preferred to Immaculate Conception Church or Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
