Lester "George" E. Freid, 85, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Luther Hospital. 
 
Lester was born April 5, 1923, the son of Carl and Ida (Erickson) Freid. He spent his life farming. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1942. He worked for REA. Lester started working at Uniroyal in 1944. He became Maintenance Supervisor and retired in 1980 after 36 years. Upon retirement, Lester started a new career as a bus driver for 12 years for the Eau Claire Student Transit. 
 
Lester married Violet Christeson on August 1, 1959 and they had three daughters.
 
Lester was a life long member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Order 112. He was a cymbal player in the Shriner's Band and marched in many parades. Lester enjoyed working with his hands and was very proud of the cottage he built on the Chippewa River. He helped many friends and family with his electrical and plumbing handyman skills.  

 
Lester is survived by his wife of 49 years, Violet, daughters, Mary (Mike) Bolle, Margery Freid, and Jean Freid; brother, Harold (Ione) Freid; and grandchildren, Sophia and Alex Bolle; and many nieces and nephews.
 
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ida Freid, sister, June Wait and infant siblings, Marjorie Freid and baby Freid.
 
Family requests memorials be made to the Shriner's Hospital or Grace Lutheran Church.
 
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday November 8, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Avenue, Eau Claire, WI. Pastor Rolf Nestingen will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire immediately following the service. Friends may call at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Rd, Eau Claire, WI on Friday November 7, 2008 from 5-7 pm. Masonic service will take place at 7 pm to conclude the evening visitation. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the church from 10 am until the time of services.
