Leonard J. Grecco, age 81, of Eau Claire, died peacefully at home with family at his side on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, following a brief bout with cancer.
|
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 23, 1926 to Joseph and Elizabeth
Grecco. He attended grade school, junior high school, and high school in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from LaSalle College in Philadelphia, PA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry in June 1950.
While he attended school, Leonard held a variety of jobs, including a welder, a soda jerk, and a short-order cook.

He was drafted in October 1944 and entered the U.S. Army. He served in France, Germany, and Austria during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Army and then continued in the Reserves until July 1966. |

He married Martha Oblazney on April 19, 1952 in Camden, NJ, and they raised six children. He worked for Uniroyal for 34 years in Philadelphia, PA, Mishawaka, IN, and Eau Claire, WI. He retired from Uniroyal in 1988.
Leonard enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and many friends. He also enjoyed woodworking and volunteered at the Chippewa Valley Museum. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of both Disabled American Veterans and Immaculate Conception Parish.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha, five sons, Joseph (Sharon) of Tabernacle, NJ, Leonard (Susan) of East Greenwich, RI, Robert (Claudette) of Fishers, IN, John (Debi) of Mishawaka, IN, and Edward (Erica) of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, one daughter, Anna Marie of Oakdale, MN, thirteen grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew (Lori), Ashley, Melanie, Kylie, Linda, Brittany, Christopher, Alexander, Lucas, Alexis, Isabelle, and Olivia, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Grecco, three brothers, Angelo, Louis, and Joseph Grecco, and one sister Rita Giantomaso.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Father Eugene Klink officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be at the Chapel of Resurrection Mausoleum.
