Robert H. Gunderson, 63, of Eau Claire died on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Robert was born on December 20, 1944 to Hilman and Edna (Sykora) Gunderson in Eau Claire. 
 

   He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served four years of submarine duty aboard the USS Sailfish. Upon leaving the Navy, he earned an Associates Degree in Electronics from Chippewa Valley Technical College and was hired by Burroughs Corporation where he worked for twenty-four years. He then went on to work for Cray Research in Chippewa Falls, which later became TTM Technologies, until his in retirement in 2007. 
 
He married Patricia Schmidt in 1977 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer, WI. Robert enjoyed reading, golfing, and spending time with his wife and family.
 
Robert is survived by his wife, Pat, of Eau Claire; his three children, Laura Gunderson of Eau Claire, Michelle Gunderson of Eau Claire, and Brian Gunderson of Eagan, MN; and his grandson Austin Gunderson of Eau Claire. He is further survived by his step father, John Butak of Chippewa Falls; his two brothers Eugene (Lucille) Gunderson and David Gunderson of Chippewa Falls; brothers-in-law William (Arlene) Schmidt and Loren (Judy) Schmidt of Bloomer; sister-in-law, Marie (John) Paulous of Colfax; and his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friends, Jack and Judi Geissler of Chippewa Falls. 
 
 

He was preceded in death by his father, Hilman, and his mother, Edna.
 
His family would like to offer a special thank you to the staffs of the Intensive Care Unit and the Domitilla building of Saint Mary's Hospital.
 
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Father William Dhein will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery near Bloomer at 2:30 pm that afternoon. Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
