LeRoy T. Johnson, age 75 of Eau Claire, died at Harbor House on Friday, May 23, 2008, surrounded by his family following a five year battle with dementia.
LeRoy was born on June 6, 1932, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Marie (Pfaff) Johnson. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1950. On July 3, 1954 LeRoy married Barbara Jean Bartholomew at the Lake Street United Methodist Church. As a teenager, LeRoy was asked to be a bell ringer for the church. He continued his participation with the church through his life serving as an Elder, an Adult Education Chairman on the Board of Education, and as a Lutheran Brotherhood Communicator. LeRoy also coached the church basketball team, helped as Usher Captain, secured the Sunday offerings at church, and assisted with the church nursery and library. |

LeRoy was employed by Uniroyal from 1952 until 1992 where he was very active on the Rubber Workers' Union Executive Board. He continued his employment at Western Dairyland RSVP from 1993 until 2002. During his professional career, LeRoy was a member of the Eau Claire Area Industrial Development Corporation Board of Directors.
He was a huge sports fan and one of his biggest joys was watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports while he was on the sidelines leading a cheer.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Eau Claire, WI); five children, Jeffery Johnson (Eau Claire, WI), Pastor Scott (Denise) Johnson (Newton, NC), Lee Ann (Richard) Kleist (Eau Claire, WI), Kevin (Teresa) Johnson (Eau Claire, WI), and Susan (Timothy) Fisher (Eau Claire, WI); 15 grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, and Jill Ann Johnson, Suzanne, David, Joanna, Devin, Mary, and Chance Johnson, Taylor and Kennedy Kleist, Alex and Samantha Johnson, and Aaron and Jacob Fisher; two brothers, Raymond (Jean) Johnson (Green Bay, WI) and Dale (Bonnie) Johnson (Green Bay, WI); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Viola Werner and Lorraine Larson; and one brother Arthur Johnson.
A funeral service for LeRoy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall Street, Eau Claire, Wisconsin with Pastor Scott Johnson and Pastor Joseph Schultz officiating. Friends may call at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. and again at church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
For a short time, LeRoy attended an adult daycare called Partners Place where he enjoyed many hours of activities including singing, dancing, and whistling.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Harbor House and Northwest Wisconsin HomeCare Hospice for their outstanding, loving care which made LeRoy's final days as peaceful as possible.
