Kenneth J. Link, age 84 of Eau Claire, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 23, 2008 at his home.
Ken was born on November 18, 1923 in Eau Claire, the son of Elizabeth and Emil Link. He grew up on the family farm in rural Elk Mound and graduated from Elk Mound High School. In 1945 he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. For 36 years Ken was employed at Uniroyal until his retirement in 1982. |
On December 27, 1945, Ken married Alida Peterson at Emmanuel
Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. They were married for 36 years
before she passed away. Following Alida's death and Ken's
retirement, he was recruited by Uniroyal to travel to China to
educate personnel on the process of off-road tire production.
While traveling on a bus trip, Ken met Nona Barney. In February of
1990 Ken and Nona wed. They were married seventeen years until her
death, which was also due to declining health. Ken was always
there for both of his wives during their illnesses.
|
| Ken's religion was always an important part of his
life. He was very active in his church as well as volunteering at
Syverson Lutheran Home as needed on Sundays during worship. He was
a 60-year member of the American Legion serving on several
committees during this time. He was a volunteer for the Community
Table and always was willing to lend a helping hand whenever
possible. Ken was known for his support of the Wisconsin sports
teams, hunting, gardening, traveling, telling tall-tales, and
making lefsa during the holidays. Ken was a very caring and giving
person and described by many as one of the nicest persons they
knew. |
