Bert Pascal Munthe of Eau Claire, Wisconsin passed away February 1, 2008 at the Clairemont Nursing Home.
 
Bert was born July 6, 1911 to Andrew and Laura (Pascoe) Munthe in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
 
He graduated from Two Harbors High School, class of 1930. Bert later graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry in 1935. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Ohio for 5 years followed by 30 years as a scientist at the Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was honored nationally as one of the top wood scientists in the nation.

 
Bert, along with his wife, Viola, of 68 years (deceased) lived many years in the Madison/Middleton/Baraboo area before moving to Eau Claire.
 
Bert was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed the northern Minnesota wilderness: camping, fishing and hiking.
 
He is survived by two sons, Andrew (Ann) Munthe of Cotton, Minnesota and Steve (Corrine) Munthe of Altoona, Wisconsin. Bert is further survived by five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bert was preceded in death by his parents.
 
Services for Bert will be on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire with Pastor Frederick W. Theiste of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Friends and family may visit from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington.
