Eugene "Gene" I. Sather, age 84 of Eau Claire, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008, at Luther Midlefort Oakridge Center in Osseo, Wisconsin.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Avenue, Eau Claire. Pastor Scott Miller will officiate. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 10 am until the time of services.
 

Gene was born on October 17, 1924, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Chris and Mabel (Anderson) Sather. He attended Eau Claire Senior High and Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. In 1951, he married Jeanette Evenson. He served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on May 7, 1946. He taught high school economics and coached football for one year. He then joined the FBI as a Special Agent working in Charlotte, NC, Philadelphia, New York City, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Eau Claire. He retired from the FBI in 1979. He then worked as a private investigator for several years.
 
Gene enjoyed summer vacations with the family.
 

 
   Gene is survived by his wife, Jeanette; daughter, Ann; sons, Thomas (Jackie), Mark (Mary), and John Sather; grandchildren, Jennifer, John, Jessica, Brett, Kelsey, Evan, and Laura; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hayley, Matthew, Andrew, and Owen Eugene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Mabel and sister, Deloris.
 
Family would like to thank Dove Healthcare and Rehabilitation for the special care given to Eugene.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
