Leo "Parky" W. Sommer, age 74 of Eau Claire, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008, at his home, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Leo was born on June 27, 1933, in Eau Claire, the son of Leo and Myrtle (Peterson)
Sommer. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1951. Leo married Wanda Jean Larson on November 15, 1953. Leo was a cook in the National Guard, a mechanic at Ford Garage, and a wastewater treatment operator for Pope and Talbot until his retirement. He was a member and council-member of Ascension Lutheran Church for the past forty-five years where he served as the treasurer for the last twenty-five years. |

Leo will be remembered as a kind, hard-working and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. |
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda; sons, William (Terrie) Sommer
(Eleva), Leo (Joanne) Sommer (Eau Claire), Michael (Tammy) Sommer (Eau Claire); daughters, Mara Jean Weisheipl (Eau Claire), Lora Jean (Steve) Helberg (Eau Claire) and Sara Jean (John) Griffin (Eau Claire); sisters, Diane
(Maylin) Erdman (Eau Claire), Barb Lewis (Menomonie); brother-in-laws, Gary (Virginia) Larson, Kenneth (Norma) Larson, David (Vicky) Larson; sister-in-laws, Janet (James) Glenna, Mona
Melgoza, Sharon Sault, and Vickie (Steve) Sieg; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Myrtle Sommer; son, Timothy J.
Sommer; grandsons Phillip Weisheipl and Cody Helberg; brother, Paul
Sommer; and sister, Melinda Demos.
The Family would like to thank all the Doctors and Care Staff at Sacred Heart Hospital and the St. Joseph's Hospice Care Staff for all their support and care.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Sullivan officiating. Friends may call at
Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, on Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. and again at church one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Northside Lutheran Cemetery, Eau Claire.
