Henry Thode, 80, of Eau Claire, Formerly of Augusta died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at his home.

Henry was born on April 10, 1928 in Middle Inlet, Wisconsin to Henry Sr. and Anna (Tadisch) Thode. At the age of six, he moved with his family to Augusta. He attended Kirkham Valley School in Bridge Creek.

Henry lived and worked in the family business, the Moose Tavern, east of Augusta through his teenage years. In 1946, the family business (Thode Hardware Inc.) began. Henry and his brother Martin operated the business for many years. He owned and operated the Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild, WI from 1970 to 1983. In 1983, he built Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, WI and moved the business there, which he managed until selling in 1990, when he retired.

Growing up as a child in the years of the Great Depression, Henry learned early what hard work meant. He was a jack-of-all-trades, including carpentry, appliance sales and repair. Henry loved playing pool with Martin, though Martin won most often. He loved attending dances, especially polkas, and he liked to cook and bake with Nancy and listen to the Cubs baseball games. Henry enjoyed talking with everyone and he loved to banter with people.
