Norman R. Velie, age 86 of Altoona went home to his lord on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Norm was born to Oscar and Florence (Gable) Velie in Eau Claire February 9, 1922. He married his wife of 61 years, Dorothy "Babe" Kopp on August 29, 1947 at First Baptist Church of Eau Claire. Norm moved from Omro, WI to a peaceful valley home near Elk Creek in 1936 where he would later build a home for his wife and family, dwelling there until 2006.

Norm enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving in England, Germany and France. Norm worked in a mechanical corps readying the vehicles for the D-Day invasion. He guarded prisoners at Remagen Bridge.
He received Christ as his savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church. He was a member of Amy Chapel and Salem Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. |
He worked at Uniroyal for 33 years as a machinist, retiring in 1985.
Norm was a loving father, grandfather and devoted husband. He loved fishing, gardening, and playing games with family and friends. He was a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher.

| Norm is survived by his wife Dorothy "Babe", Daughter Marie (Terry) Schell, Son Steven (Natalie) Velie, five grandchildren Nathan (Lachelle) Schell, Faith (Brian) Witzig, Joshua Velie, Danielle Velie and Tairyn Velie, Great Granddaughter Hope Witzig. Two brothers Edward (June) of Holcombe, Phillip (Pearl) of Elk Mound, three sisters Julienne Kopp of Elk Mound, Elaine Axtell of Virginia, Jeanette (Duane) Herald of Baldwin, Step Mother Freda, two half brothers Van and Tom (Lisa), two half sisters Rachel (Paul) Richards all of Melbourne, Florida and Sharon (Steve) Belsheium of Tennessee, many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. |

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Florence, two brothers LaForest "Spoof" and Dan and a sister Joyce (John) Slaughter.
The family of Norman would like to thank the staff of Luther Hospital/Midlefort Clinic for the many years of loving support and care.
Funeral Services for Norman will take place at 11 am on Friday September 26, 2008 at Salem Baptist Church, 1210 E. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire. Rev. Daniel Maxton will officiate and Rev. David Wolfe will co-officiate. American Legion Post #53 immediately following the services at church will conduct military Honors. Friends may call on Thursday afternoon from 4-8 pm at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI and at the church Friday morning from 10 am until the time of services.
