Madeline was in the 1929 graduating class of Eau Claire Senior High School. She took further business classes at the then Eau Claire Vocational School. In her mid-life years she returned for further schooling through a Luther Hospital course for nurses aides and graduated, becoming one of the first Home Care Health Aides in Eau Claire. She also had worked for the Eau Claire Public Schools, and was an aide at Sacred Heart Hospital. She kept a warm and inviting home and enjoyed entertaining guests, who always had a delicious meal and hearty conversations.
Madeline loved old-time classical music and hymns. She was a vocal soloist at various times. While raising her children, she wrote a well-liked play and acted in it, with others from the Sherman School Mother's Club, for PTA and elsewhere, in the 1940s. For years she was involved in quilting, sewing, knitting, tatting and crocheting projects for her family and for gifts. She was an avid flower gardener, with a beautiful garden every year. She wrote a poem that was chosen and published in her Eau Claire High School yearbook of 1929.
She had a church home at different times in three Baptist churches in Eau Claire. She was a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, choir member and happily participated in women's activities and others. Her home churches included First Baptist Church in Eau Claire, Calvary Baptist and Salem as well. Notable about our mom is how she encouraged us in music, in church and spiritual growth and to pursue our best talents or favorite interests or professions.
Madeline Shermock Wright is survived by her four children; Meredith (Donald) Brill of Eau Claire and formerly of Madison, WI; Nancy (C. Franklin) Berger of Sparta, MI; Daniel (Jo Anne) Wright of Racine, WI; and Verne (Valerie) Wright of Export, PA. She is survived by one grandson, John Brill of Hernando, FL, and 10 granddaughters: Rebecca (Glenn) McClintock of Glenmoore, PA; Linda Brill Coffield of Eau Claire, WI; Susan Brill of Eau Claire, WI; Lisa Wright of Racine, WI; Jennifer Wright of Raleigh, NC; and Michelle (Noah) Duchac of Racine, WI; Rachel (Phillip) Coyle, currently in Germany; Karen (Alan) Gartner of Shelby, NC; Katie (Nathan) Norton of Gastonia, NC; and Rebecca Wright of Largo, FL. She has 15 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Madeline was very proud of each child in her family and loved each one dearly. Her family was her life. She is survived by several loved cousins as well, and numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd W. Wright; and two brothers and two sisters: Leonard (Geraldine) Shermock; J. Robert (Anne) Shermock; Lucille (H. Durand) Reas; and Betty (Victor) Custer.
