Hilda E. Behlke, age 88 of Altoona, passed away
Sunday morning May 31, 2009 at Country Terrace in Altoona under
the care of Northwest Wisconsin Homecare.
Hilda was born October 13, 1920 to Rudolph and Mathilda (Rau) Sell
in the town of Lincoln, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin. She was
baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fall
Creek.
She married Clarence Behlke on April 14, 1940 at St. John's
Lutheran Church, Fall Creek. Following their marriage, she became
a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Cleghorn, where she was active
in Ladies Aid, LWML, quilting, and teaching Sunday school.
Hilda and Clarence farmed in the town of Clear Creek, Eau Claire County, until moving to Eau Claire in 2004, due to health. Hilda was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. |

Hilda is survived by one daughter, Alice (Marvin) Johnson. Five grandsons: Rodney (Cynthia) Behlke, Kevin (Jane) Behlke, Michael Behlke, and Michael Johnson (Jean Lewis) and one granddaughter, Ami (Michael) Wathke. Two great-granddaughters, Nicole (Andrew) Mueller and Emily Behlke; four great-grandsons, Dustin Behlke, Zachary Behlke, Bryce Wathke, and Drew Wathke, two step-great-grandsons, Joshua (Angela) Liljander and Tim Liljander; and four great-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Lorna Sell.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, in 2006, sons, Gerald in the Vietnam War in 1967 and Ronald in 2003. Seven brothers: Otto (Lorena), Arthur (Alma), Elgart, Edwin (Viola), Lawrence, Elmer, and an infant; five sisters: Theresa (Ervin) Sommerfeldt, Lydia (Elgart) Knuth, Esther (Alvin) Welke, Lilly (Marvin) Molke and Ruth Sell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, E3720 County Rd. HH, Eleva, WI. Pastor Dennis Voss will officiate. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Burial to follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cleghorn.
