Harriet Myrtle-Augusta Carlson

   Harriet M.A. Carlson of Eau Claire died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. She had been a resident at the Heatherwood Residential Care complex for five years. Harriet was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on April 20, 1914 to William and Hattie (Will) Brabeck. She graduated from North High School in St. Paul in 1932. On May 16, 1936, Harriet married her husband, Elwin “Al” Alexander Carlson. She and Al moved to Eau Claire in 1938.
 
Harriet began working at the Wisconsin State Employment Service in 1952 as a stenographer. She subsequently attained the position of Administrative Secretary. In 1972 at the age of 58, she became a Manpower Specialist covering an eight county area calling on employers to create jobs for the under privileged. Harriet retired from the Wisconsin State Employment Service at the age of 62 in 1976. 
 
She is survived by her three sons, Bryn (Helynn) of Covington, GA, Richard (Carolyn) of Neenah, WI, and Craig (Gail) of Strum, WI, ten grandchildren, Todd (Alicia), Kirk (Paula), Scott (Patricia), Tim (Lucinda), John (Michelle) Carlson, Shelly (Paul) Carlson-Miner, Kristine (Michael) McElligott, Ronda Carlson, Chad Carlson and Derek (Jennifer) Carlson, and 16 Great Grandchildren. Her parents, her husband, brothers, Dan, William, and Frank, and her sister, Lorretta, preceded her in death.
 
Memorial services will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday November 28, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI. Pastor Karen Hofstad will officiate. Friends may call at the church Saturday afternoon from 1:30 pm until the time of services. Committal Services will take place prior to the memorial service in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Harriet's name to St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaver Creek Reserve, S1 County Road K, Fall Creek, WI 54742-9473, or Eau Claire Community Foundation, 306 S.
