   Russell E. Crandell, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the Syverson Lutheran Home, Eau Claire, WI, surrounded by his family.
 
Russell was born May 20, 1925, in Eau Claire, WI, the only son of George and Viola (Lund) Crandell.
 
He graduated from Eau Claire High School, class of 1943, and entered the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then attended the University of Eau Claire, receiving a bachelor's degree in education. 
 
Russell worked for Northern States Power Company for 31 years, starting in the Electrical Sales Division and retiring as the Personnel Director on May 31, 1985.
 
On April 8, 1951, Russ married Margaret D. Martin in Eau Claire, WI, and celebrated their 58th anniversary this spring.
Russ was an active member of the Military Officers Association of America; was a Liaison Officer for the United States Air Force Academy; was president of the Optimists Club; was a board member at Chippewa Valley Technical College and sat on many boards at Grace Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member.
 
 

Russell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; four children, Steve (Mary), Waukesha, WI; Mark (Pam), Eau Claire, WI; David (Karen) Eau Claire, WI; Ann (Jon) Ziegler, Weston, WI. Eight grandchildren, Sean (Shari) Crandell, Allen, TX; Erin (Jason) Romenesko, Waukesha, WI; Nicholas and Christopher Crandell, Eau Claire, WI; Bradley (Heather) Crandell, Verona, WI; Max Crandell, Eau Claire, WI; Taylor and Kallie Ziegler, Weston, WI; Two Step-grandchildren, David and Sarah Jensen, Eau Claire, WI; Sister-in-law Catherine Martin; and many cousins and friends.
 
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
 
Funeral Services will take place at 11 am. Friday, June 19, at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 202 W. Grand Avenue, Eau Claire, WI. Burial will immediately follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire with military honors being conducted by American Legion Post #53.
 
Friends may call Grace Lutheran Church, from 4 to 8 pm. Thursday evening, June 18, 2009, and again at the church on Friday morning from 10 am. until the time of services.
 
The Crandell Family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Luther Hospital Emergency Room and fourth floor. We'd also like to thank the entire staff of the Garden Wing at the Syverson Lutheran Home; we cannot thank you enough for your respectful and loving care offered during his short stay with you.
