William (Bill) Martin Gawin, age 62 of rural Eau Claire, Wisconsin passed away on August 6, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 2, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Casimir and Evelyn (Dvorak) Gawin.

On November 14, 1971 he married the love of his life, Cynthia Schroeder of Chicago, Illinois. Bill retired in 1992 from his work as an OSHA compliance officer to start a safety consulting business which allowed him to work from home and spend more time with his family. He was a passionate man who loved his family wholeheartedly. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, sometimes stopping by unannounced to eat a pizza with his grandsons. He returned just last weekend from taking his oldest grandson Peter to the Oshkosh air show.

Bill was known for doing things with all his heart. This included his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ which he faithfully passed down to his children. We are all grateful for his vision and willingness to make hard decisions that he felt would be of benefit to his family.

He especially loved music, coffee, the outdoors, travel, weather, photography, cars, and cooking--constantly working to perfect whatever it was he was making, whether a pizza, espresso, pound cake or hollandaise sauce.

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife, Cynthia; daughter, Heather (Alan) McKeen of Bloomer; son, Christian (Bettyanne) of Chippewa Falls; and daughters, Rebecca, Hannah, Leah (Peter) Brubaker of Vandalia, Michigan, and Martha; six grandchildren, Peter and Isaac McKeen; Andrew, Benjamin, Josiah and Faith Gawin; his mother, Evelyn Gawin Kuba of Houston, Texas; a sister, Cheryl (Joseph) Dubeck of Houston, Texas; several cousins and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, and a daughter, Sarah Frances.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Eau Claire. A friend of the family, John Loewen will officiate. Burial will be at Prince of Peace Covenant Church Cemetery in Mondovi. There will be a reception following the burial at Roger Marten Community Center in Mondovi.
