Theodore "Ted" P. Gunnes, age 84 of Eau Claire passed away early Tuesday morning April 28, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Funeral Services will be at 2 pm on Sunday May 3, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church, 501 E. Fillmore Street, Eau Claire. Pastor Mark Schulz will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington immediately following the services. VFW Post #305 will conduct military Honors. Friends may call at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon from 4-7 pm and at the Church Sunday afternoon from 1 pm until the time of services. Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Ted was born on February 8, 1925 in Eau Claire, WI son of Oscar and Agnes
(Miland) Gunnes. He proudly enlisted in the 1st Marine Division in 1943 serving in Okinawa, Japan and China until 1946 during World War II. On October 12, 1946, he married June Wensel at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church. |

Ted was seriously injured in an electrical accident while working as a lineman for the Eau Claire Electrical Cooperative in 1954. He retired in 1990 as a supervisor at Career Development Center after 24 years of employment. He served 14 years on the Eau Claire County Board, 16 years on the County's Board of Land Use Appeals, 16 years on the Town of Washington Board, executive board of electricians Local 953 and 33 years on the Rest Haven Cemetery Board. Ted was an active member of Our Redeemers and a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Ted is survived by his wife June and four children, Linda (Richard) Hauger of Eau Claire, Terry (Karen) Gunnes of Worth, IL, David (Karen) Gunnes of Prescott, WI and Kim Gunnes (Dan Kopatich) of Des Moines, IA. Ted has five grandchildren: Vicki Stabenow, Julie Hauger, Racheal Evans, Lauren and Kristen Gunnes and two great-grandchildren Lindsay Wangen and Kassandra Stabenow, sister Carol Anderson and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, Oscar and Agnes, brothers Orvin and Art Gunnes, precede Ted in death.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Pastor Mark Schulz, the staff of Sacred Heart Hospital, especially the 2nd floor and the pastoral care staff and a special thanks to Jesse and Meagan.
Memorials may be given in Ted's name to Peace Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
