Doris L. (Speckien) Herrick, "Dodie"


		Doris (Dodie) Speckien Herrick, 92, passed away on October 15, 2009 at the Chippewa Manor after residing at the Oakwood Retirement Home for the past four years. Doris was born to Myrtle (Trowbridge) and Thomas Litchfield, Sr. on January 6, 1917 in Mondovi , WI . Her family moved to Eau Claire in 1924 and she graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1938. She graduated from Eau Claire State Teachers College and taught kindergarten and first grade for many years. Doris married Harold J. Speckien, Sr. on August 28, 1942. He died on July 21, 1970. She married William H. Herrick on May 23, 1981.


Dodie loved to read, play golf and bridge and travel with her family and friends. She was an active member of Lake Street Methodist Church and a charter member of Chapter BE of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Dodie will always be remembered for her sweet, loving, and giving nature. Doris is survived by her children, Jerry (Beth) Speckien of Eau Claire, Jim (Margaret) Speckien of Vadnais Heights, MN and Mary (Paul) Tarnoff of Fairfield, IA; grandchildren, Amy and Ben Speckien, Emily (Mike) Lindgren, Anna and Laura Tarnoff; sisters, Lorraine Willson, Eau Claire and Lois (Robert) Bodeau, Chippewa Falls, WI and brother, Donald (Shirley Wright) Litchfield, Eau Claire. Her parents, her husbands, brother Thomas Litchfield, Jr., sister Erna Olsen, and beloved granddaughter Amanda Speckien preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday October 24, 2009 at Lake Street United Methodist Church , 337 Lake Street , Eau Claire , WI . Pastors Graham N. West and David Kruse will officiate. Private graveside services will be at Northside Lutheran Cemetery prior to the memorial service. There will be no public visitation. Friends may offer condolences online at www.fullerspeckien.com. Memorials may be given in Dodie’s memory to Lake Street United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
