Elizabeth L Humphrey, 74, Eau Claire
passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, November 17, 2009,
surrounded by her family. She was born on November 28, 1934 in
Marshfield, WI to Joseph and Dorothea Heinzen. In 1952, she
graduated from Columbus High School in Marshfield, WI. Elizabeth
attended nursing school in Marshfield and Milwaukee, WI graduating
as an LPN in February 1954.
Elizabeth married James Humphrey September 6, 1954 in Marshfield,
WI. They started their journey together in Madison, then moving to
Milwaukee, Pewaukee, Deforest, and settling into their "log
cabin in the woods" near Elk Lake. They recently celebrated
their 55th wedding anniversary. |

Elizabeth worked at hospitals in the MIlwaukee area until moving to Elk Lake in 1968 where she worked at Luther Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, The Clairemont nursing home, and the Eau Claire CO Health Care Center. She was a member of Sacred Heart/St Patrick Parish, Eau Claire. She devoted much time and effort collecting and sending needed items to the Capuchin Missions in Eastern Nicaragua where her brother, Father Hugh
Heinzen, was a missionary. She received her amateur radio license in 1989 (N9ISR, advanced class). Elizabeth enjoyed spending time outdoors at her home, maintaining the large yard and walking paths through the woods, . She also enjoyed sewing, playing piano, gardening, reading, and caring for her family and many pets, most recently cats, Sandy and Shadow and dog, Sadie. |

Survivors include her husband, James of Elk Lake; daughter Jackie (John) Kaanta of Elk Mound; son Mike (Karen) Humphrey of Spring Valley; daughter Jill (Brian) Jenson of Elk Mound; son Mark (Kristin) Humphrey of Eau Claire; a sister Florence Weigel of Marshfield; brother Richard (Mary Ann) Heinzen of Cedarburg; grandchildren Kristopher, Tony, Jennifer, Becky, Steven, Susan, Katy, Alexis, and Kevin; 4 great-grandchildren Ethan, Avery, Braxtin, and Jillian. Also survived by sister-in-law, Eileen Heinzen of Milwaukee, sister-in-law Juanita Humphrey of Madison, brother-in-law Ron (Geneal) Humphrey of Sun Prairie, and sister-in-law Marlene (Paul) Klahn of Colorado Springs, CO., and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothea Heinzen of Marshfield; two brothers, Mark Heinzen of Milwaukee; Father Hugh Heinzen (Bob) of Waspam, Nicaragua; a sister Sr. Elizabeth Ann (Jeanette) of Elm Grove, WI, and a brother in-law Walter Weigel (Florence) of Marshfield; and her in-laws Harold and Hazel Humphrey of Morrisonville, WI.
A time of gathering to celebrate Elizabeth's life will be from 4 to 6pm Friday, November 20th at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke funeral home 3209 Rudolph Road Eau Claire, WI 54701 followed by a memorial service from 6 to 6:30pm officiated by Father William Dhein.
