Leigh was born on October 30, 1937, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the
son of Ole and Nora (Nelson) Knudtson. He served with the U.S.
Army for three years from 1955 until 1957 while being stationed in
Korea during the Korean Conflict. After his return stateside, he
married his wife, June I. Hanson, on November 8, 1958. Leigh lived
in Pleasant Valley for 35 years until moving in 1994 into his lake
home in Minong, which he remodeled. Leigh was employed throughout
his career by WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, for 30 years, and then by
Sears Automotive for 15 years.
Leigh enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in the outdoors with his family. He was very proud of his accomplishments; helping a friend build a golf course in Minong, constructing his residences and cabin, as well as being a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans in
Menomonie. Leigh was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church for 40 years and president of the Union Cemetery Association Board for over 20 years. Leigh and his wife, June were foster parents for more than forty years. |

He is survived by his wife, June; five daughters, Kim (Tony) Hotujec (Eau Claire), Brenda (Tom) Youderian (Hudson), Lynda (Luther) Harvin (Woodbury, MN), Jessica Knudtson (Orlando, FL), and Tricia Knudtson (at home); sons, Richard Knudtson (Eau Claire), Robert (Robin) Knudtson (Somerset); eight grandchildren; sister, Carol Champion (Menomonie); sister-in-law, Iva Knudtson (New Berlin); and many other relatives and friends.
Leigh is preceded in death by his parents; parent-in-laws; two brothers, Burval and DeWayne; one sister-in-law, Arluane; one grandson, Scot Youderian; and three foster children, Bryan, Leah, and Ashley.
A funeral service will be held for Leigh at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Friends may visit at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again at church one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Clear Creek Township.
