Rosamond Purvis Krueger, 102, of Eau Claire, died Friday, January 2, 2009, at Luther Hospital with many members of her loving family at her side.

Rosamond Purvis was born September 5, 1906, at the home of her grandmother in Knapp, Wisconsin, the fourth child of the ten children of George Burgon Purvis and Myrtle Estelle "Nellie" Carter Purvis.

As a child Rosamond lived with her family in Chicago, but her family moved to Knapp, Wisconsin where her father owned a general store. Rosamond attended school at Knapp through the tenth grade, and then boarded with a family in Menomonie to finish the two years of high school. She then graduated from a one year program at Dunn County Normal and took a job teaching at the Miller Hill School in the hills above Knapp for the year of 1928-1929. She later taught at the Kyle School at Downsville, boarding with the Frank Knippel family, and riding on the train from Menomonie to Downsville.

She met Paul A. Krueger while working at a summer job in Kelly's Hotel in Knapp. They were married April 4, 1931 at Red Wing, Minnesota. Three children were born to Paul and Rosamond--Paula and the twins, Frederic and Frances.

During World War II she returned to teaching and taught at the Lierman School and the Tramway School in Dunn County. Following Paul's death in June of 1955, she returned to Dunn County Normal and finished her second year. She taught two years at the Granger School, and then taught at Knapp Elementary School, finally finishing her degree at Wisconsin State University in Eau Claire. In all, Rosamond graduated six times. She taught at North Elementary School in Menomonie for 12 years, teaching the entire year she was 66. She was a very highly regarded teacher, and until the time of her death still received letters from former students.

She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and was Sunday School Superintendent at Knapp Methodist Church. She also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers' sorority.

Following the death of her sister, Elsie, she moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in November of 1978, and had resided there since that time. She was able to live in her own home until she was 102 years old--an amazing achievement.
