   Steven J. Melland died Friday October 16, 2009 at Luther Hospital after a battle with pancreatic cancer. 
 
Memorial services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire. Pastor Gary Sahs of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire is officiating. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 4-8 pm and again at the funeral home Wednesday morning one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington at a later date. 
 
He was born September 29, 1949 in Eau Claire to Ivan and Shirley (Belden) Melland. He married Margaret Thompson October 17, 1970. They enjoyed 34 happy years together before Margaret passed in 2004.She was the love of his life.
 
After graduating from North High School in 1967, Steve joined the Army Reserves and served for 6 years in Company C, 397th Engineer Battalion.During this time he also worked for Indianhead Warehouses in Eau Claire. In 1982 he began working for Land O'Lakes Incorporated until his retirement in 2007.  

 
Steve loved going to the cabin. He also enjoyed hanging out with his Uncle Norm, whether it was fishing, going to the casino or just relaxing. He was an avid sports fan enjoying the Brewers, NASCAR, and the Packers. Before, during and after Brett Favre.He especially enjoyed spending time on the lake with his sister and brother-in-law. He was also known for his dry sense of humor.
 
Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather,brother, uncle and nephew.He especially enjoyed spending time with his four beautiful granddaughters. His family meant everything to him.
 
Steve is survived by his daughter Angela and son-in-law Aaron Fischer, son Benjamin Melland and fiancee Cami Downs-Louma, and granddaughters Rachel, Andrea, Alexandra and Riley Fischer. Sister Linda (Steve ) Backstrom, nephew Tony Smith (Joanne) and special friend Evy Moody. He was also survived by sister -in laws Maxine Loomis ( Joe Collinsworth), Marianne ( Roger) Ashley, Catherine Thompson ( Greg Belknap), brother-in -laws John Thompson ( Cathy Houston), Gary ( Julie) Thompson and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
