Betty Lorraine Paulson, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Syverson Lutheran Home. Betty was born December 15, 1921, to Frank and Clara (Burdett) Koppen in Altoona, Wisconsin. 
 

   She graduated from Altoona High School and then attended beauty school in Eau Claire and later worked as a beautician. During World War II she worked in the optic department at Honeywell in Minneapolis, which made lenses for gun sights, telescopes and periscopes. Betty and her life long friend, Kate, moved to California and worked as riveters for the Lockheed-Douglas Aircraft Factory. She then worked at Tender Krust (Bunny Bread) Bakery in Eau Claire, where she met and later married LaVern Paulson. Betty worked at Gramac's clothing store in the late 60's. In the 1970's Betty and LaVern owned and operated the Sunbeam Tavern in Chippewa Falls until retiring in 1979. 
 
Betty was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She was a girl scout leader and enjoyed volunteering at Oakwood Villa and at the Altoona Library. She was a wonderful homemaker and loved spending time with her family and friends, and pontooning on Island Lake. Betty was always willing to help anyone. She had a great sense of humor and an amazing outlook on life. 
 
Survivors include her daughter Jackie (Kirk) Day and grandsons Kevin and Brian Day, all of Altoona. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister Marvel and husband LaVern.
 
Memorial Service will be on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 3 PM at the Syverson Lutheran Home Chapel, 816 Porter Ave. Eau Claire. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, also at Syverson. Rev. Debra Boynton will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Grace Lutheran Foundation or St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Friends may offer online condolences at www.fullerspeckien.com. Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
