Joyce L. Smith, age 89 of Eau Claire,
joined her heavenly father on February 21, 2009, surrounded by her
family with the assistance of Northwest Wisconsin Homecare.

Visitation will be at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 3031
Epiphany Lane, Eau Claire on Monday evening from 4-7 pm. and again
at the church Tuesday morning an hour prior to services. Funeral
Services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2009
at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Pastor Russell Kampfer will
officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery immediately
following the services.
Joyce was born on December 23, 1919, in rural Cadott, to Arthur and Appalona
(Lotz) Schultz. Upon graduation from high school, she enrolled in the Mayo School of Nursing. While attending nursing school, she worked at the Mayo Mansion for Will and Charlie Mayo. She deeply respected and admired these two individuals for their commitment to health care. She was a registered nurse at both Sacred Heart and Luther Hospitals for a combined 50 years, primarily in pediatrics. She cared for many area children as she fulfilled her passion for nursing. |
During World War II, Joyce met a handsome soldier in Rochester, Minnesota, by the name of Herman Smith. They were married on November 11, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers, Austin, Howard, and James Schultz, sister Marion Jacobson and sadly, her great-grandson Garrett Lund.
She is survived by daughters Bonnie Smith of Columbia Heights, MN, Connie (Curtis) Woodford of Eau Claire, Sallie (Richard) Lund of Findlay, OH, sons Timm (Deborah) Smith of Chippewa Falls, and Mark (Marilyn) Smith of Tomahawk, WI, grandchildren Michael (Donna) Lund, Fredric (Christine) Lund, Amy (Brett)
Grunewald, Aaron (Cherish) Woodford, Jedd and Tiffany Smith, great-grandchildren Evan Smith, Autumn and Preston
Woodford. She is also survived by a brother Charles (Faith) Schultz, sisters Eunice (Alan) Zenner and Jene Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. |

Joyce touched many lives through her personal and professional life. She will be sadly missed. Our loss will be heaven's reward.
