He was a very active member of the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club for many years and was especially active in the Pheasant Program. He also taught hunter safety and snowmobile safety.
Romie was a talented carpenter. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, and spending time at the “cottage” and the “shack” with family and friends.
He is survived by wife, Alice; children, Michael (Rose) Spanel, Marcia (Leon) Schuh, Gary (Sally) Spanel, Rosemarie Spanel, and Nancy Spanel; nine grandchildren, William, Angela, Christopher, Jason, Alison, Traci, Mark, Laura, and Nick; one great-granddaughter, Ella; one brother, Charles Spanel; one stepbrother, Walter Bartosh; and one stepsister, Richardis Vanderslice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank Spanel; one stepbrother, Carl Bartosh; and one stepsister, Kathryn Harriet Byer.
