   Hazel Zimmerman, age 97 of Eau Claire passed away Tuesday morning June 9, 2009 at the Dove Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Eau Claire. 
 
Hazel was born June 17, 1911 in Fall Creek to Rudy and Ida Boernke as one of eight children. On July 2, 1939, she married Elmer Zimmerman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Fall Creek. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1990. She attended Fall Creek High School. After high school, Hazel attended Eau Claire Normal School. She started teaching in a one-room school. While teaching, she stayed with a family in the school district. Later in years, she taught school at Epiphany Lutheran Church School. 
   

Hazel enjoyed life with her family and friends. She belonged to the Lowes Creek Homemakers for 50 plus years. She was very active at her church belonging to the Ladies Aide-LWML and also volunteered at the Bethesda thrift shop. She enjoyed going to the cabin at Long Lake, playing cards, going out to eat, reading, and doing her puzzle books. 
 
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Jack) Campbell of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, Shannon (Greg) Jones, Jennifer (Al) Campbell, and Randy (Susan) Campbell all of Eau Claire; eight great-grandchildren, Jarred, Jordan, and Jasmine Jones; Lukas and Cooper Campbell; and Elizabeth, Jack, and Isabelle Campbell; sisters, Beata Strasburg of Austin, MN and Ada (Warren) Kuehn of Eau Claire; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
 
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; parents; brothers, Don, Ray, Gary, and Hans; and one sister, Ruth. 
 
Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Rest Haven Cemetery. Pastor Russell Kampfer will officiate. 
 
Hazel’s family would like to thank Eastridge Estates and the wonderful staff for their services. They would also like to extend a “thank you” to Dr. Steve Weiss and staff for their many years of care.
