Mark John Sheils, 58, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 8, 2010. Mark was born in Eau Claire to Patrick and Mary Ann
(Lahner) Sheils on November 6, 1951. His family moved to Rhinelander, WI where he attended St. Mary's Grade School. When the family returned to Eau Claire in 1964 he attended Central Junior High School and graduated from Memorial High School in 1970. After high school, Mark pursued his career as a welder and steamfitter. He was initiated as a journeyman steamfitter in 1976. Mark served on the Executive Board and several committees and eventually served as vice-president of Local 385. He was also a Certified Instructor of Journeymen and Apprentices. He retired as a member of Local 434 in 2003. After his retirement he lovingly became the primary caregiver of his mother until her death in 2004. |

Mark was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish where he enjoyed helping with the annual fish boils and participating as a sponsor in the RCIA program. He recently became a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1257 as a 1st Degree Knight. Mark enjoyed golfing and attending sporting and school events of his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. And, he has been a friend of Bill W. for 30 years.
Mark had a quick wit and always greeted those he knew with a smile. He was devoted to his family, friends and his God. He was always available to "give a hand" to anyone who needed one. Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Richard and sister Katheleen Larson.
He is survived by two sisters, Patricia (Lloyd) Carr of Eau Claire, Mary (Dale) of Eagan, MN and brother James (Sue) of Wausau, WI, son Mike (Krista) Wittwer, Chippewa Falls, grandsons Jordan and Justin Wittwer, eight nieces and nephews, Lisa Brinkman, Michael Carr, Scott and Theresa Larson, Elizabeth and Patrick Gruenke, Kelly Gustafson and Kevin Sheils, eight great-nieces and nephews Nicholas, Chrysta and Ryan Brinkman, Sean and Cloe Carr, Erica Gustafson, and Patrick and Kathryn Sheils, and brother-in-law Gary Larson and many friends. Mark is also survived by his loyal and constant companion of 6 years, Bobbi, a redhead cockapoo-mitzu dog, who was always at his side.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 13th from 5-7pm with prayer service at 6:30 at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Chapel 3209 Rudolph Rd., Eau Claire, WI 54701. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM, Friday, May 14th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 1712 Highland Ave, Eau Claire with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Father Eugene Klink will be officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Resurrection at Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire, WI.
