Merle H. Stewart, age 88 of Eau Claire
WI, died January 7, 2010 at Dallas Health Care and Rehab Center in
Dallas WI.
Preceded in death by wife, Alma Stewart and son, Daniel Stewart.
Survived by son, James (Darlene) Stewart; grandchildren, Michael
(Jennifer) Stewart and Shannon (Shaun) Carr and
great-grandchildren, Jacob & Kylie Stewart and Katherine
Carr.

Merle graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School
in 1939. While in high school, he was a member of the Flying
Eagles Eau Claire Ski Club. During that time he was an avid ski
jumper and helped build the Hendrickson Hill Ski Slide. After high
school, Merle served in the U.S. Army from June 1942 to October
1945. While in the Army he advanced to Staff Sgt. in the 133rd
Ordinance Maintenance Battalion, 11th Armored Division, during
WWII. He was then deployed to England and crossed the English
Channel and landed in LaHarve, France. At that time he drove a M25
tank recovery unit during the end of the "Battle of the
Bulge." After returning from the war, he was employed by
Presto Industries for 39 years, where he built Martin Motors and
Presto Appliances. He continued working with the Presto Service
department until his retirement in 1983. Merle lived in the house
he built in 1948 on Summer Street in Eau Claire until he moved to
the Dallas Health Care and Rehab Center in June of 2001. |

Funeral service Tuesday, January 12, 11AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 West Grand Ave, Eau Claire. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire.
