   By Gods sovereign and loving hand, Christopher Michael Backus age 22 was called to be with his heavenly father on November 26, 2011 as a result of a tragic plane crash in Crystal Lake Illinois. 
 
Funeral Services will take place at 1 pm on Saturday December 3, 2011 at Salem Baptist Church, 1210 E. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Pastor Steve English will officiate. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington immediately following the service. Visitation will take place on Friday afternoon at the church from 3-8 pm and again Saturday morning at the church from 11 am until the time of service. 
   

Chris was born in Eau Claire on May 17, 1989 to Michael and Donna (Tio) Backus. He attended Cleghorn Elementary School, South middle school and graduated in 2007 from Eau Claire Memorial High School. While a senior at Memorial Christopher excelled in the Deca Marketing program and participated in the International Competition finishing in the top ten. After High School Christopher attended UW-Stout for one year and then transferred to Indiana Wesleyan University where for three and a half years he pursued studies in Criminal Justice, Pre Law and Business. 
 
During his life he held several jobs to include Mega Foods, Ashley Furniture, Dunham Sports and for the past three summers was a park attendant at Coon Fork County Park. Christopher loved this job and all the people that he had an opportunity to associate with. 
 
Chris was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. 
 
Chris enjoyed spending his time in the outdoors no matter what the activity. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and snowmobiling with family and friends. 
 
Chris was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers and Chicago Blackhawks to name a few. Chris was actively involved in numerous sports growing up such as baseball, track, football and Cross Country. He was involved in numerous intramural sports while attending school and also played on his church's softball team.
 
Chris attended Salem Baptist Church and was active in many youth ministry activities and mission trips. He attended Awana as a young man and developed many lasting relationships through the church.
 
Chris had a great love for music and expressed this through his ability to play the guitar, piano, and many other instruments. While in high school he was a member of Memorial Band. Chris never missed an opportunity to attend the local music festivals. 
 
He is survived by his parents Mike and Donna Backus. A sister Elizabeth (Izzy) Backus. Grandparents Dale and Pat Backus of Chippewa Falls, Clarence and Alice Tio of Eau Claire. Uncles Tom(Donna)Tio of Eau Claire, Bob(Dawn)Tio of Arvada Co, Pete(Linda) Tio of Eau Claire, Scott(Linda) Backus of Mt Prospect Il. and several cousins .
 
Christopher loved life to the fullest and placed great value on the numerous friendships that he made through his time on this earth. One of his favorite quotes was:
 
"It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had." Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
 
Friends may offer condolences online at www.fullerspeckienhulke.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The family has not determined at this time what organizations/ charities the memorials will be going to. Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
