Mary Helene Carroll, age 92 died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Grace Woodlands Assisted Living in Eau Claire.
Funeral Services will be at 11 am on Monday May 2, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Father Eugene Klink will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery immediately following the service. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 am until the time of services.
Helene was born on July 6, 1918 in Hibbing, MN to Thorvald Bjorn and Geraldine Louise
Hamre. She graduated from the College of St. Catherine in 1938. Helene married John L. "Jack" Carroll in Hibbing, MN on November 22, 1940. |

During WWII, Jack's position with the FBI took them to many eastern cities. After the war, they settled in Winona, MN until they moved to Edina, MN in 1962 and then, to Eau Claire in 1964.
Helene taught high school English for one year in Sacred Heart, MN and business classes at CVTC from 1966-1979. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, at the American Red Cross Blood Drive, for the United Way, Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary, Birthright, and with the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Immaculata Society. Helene enjoyed golf at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club and Pine Meadows Thursday Morning League, numerous bridge groups, traveling with her husband and family, and baking cookies and treats for her grandchildren to enjoy on their Saturday morning visits to their grandparents home.
Helene is survived by her children, Mary (Drew) Ryberg, Richard (Lana) Carroll, and Susan Carroll; her grandchildren, Farren Carroll, Ryan (Karn) Carroll, Brenden Carroll, Meghan Carroll, Mark (Melissa) Ryberg, Eric (Nikki) Ryberg, and Patrick (Missy Fremstad) Ryberg.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Carroll, son, Terry Carroll, and son-in-law, Kimon Bird.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the John T. Carroll Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Online condolences may be given at www.fullerspeckienhulke.com.
