   Ila Joie Rochholz Fay, age 89, of Eau Claire died peacefully at Luther Hospital on July 20, 2011. Ila was born October 8, 1921 in Adair, Iowa to Clyde and Joie Taylor Rochholz. Following graduation from high school, she enrolled in the Elementary Education Program at Iowa State Teachers College (now Northern Iowa University). Upon completing her program, she taught second grade at West Bend, Iowa.
 
On March 24, 1944 Ila married Marcus J. Fay in Adair, Iowa. Marcus returned to duty in the Army Air Corps and Ila continued to teach for a time but joined her husband while he was training in B-24 bombers prior to going overseas. Ila then taught in Council Bluffs, Iowa until Marcus returned in 1945. She and Mark then lived in Iowa City for the next 8 years before moving to Eau Claire in 1953.
   

Ila was an active member of Lake Street United Methodist Church, University Women’s Association, League of Women Voters, Friends of Chippewa Valley Symphony, and Chapter BE P.E.O Sisterhood, recently receiving her 50-year pin for P.E.O. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and served as advisor to the Delta Zeta Sorority on the UW-EC campus. She was a long-time member of the American Red Cross, serving as vice-president of the board for a time. She was also active in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She loved to read and enjoyed serving as a Friend of the Library.
 
She is survived by her husband Marcus (Mark), daughter Julie of North St. Paul, son Mark R. of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, Megan Depping of Graham, WA and Corrinne Napieralski of Orting, WA; six great-grandchildren, Jacob of Orting, and Annabelle, Gabriel, Abigail, Samuel, and Elijah of Graham, WA; her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Gerald Devine of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Frances Rochholz, of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bernard and Evelyn Fay of Adair, Iowa; sister-in-law Pat Rochholz of Adair, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Dean.
 
Ila loved people and never spoke a derogatory word about anyone in her entire life, Her loving, sweet personality and friendly, charming, and warm smile could melt an iceberg.
 
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 24th from 4 - 7 p.m. at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701 and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
 
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 25th at Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 Lake Street in Eau Claire with the Rev. Graham West officiating. There will be a private burial at 2:30 p.m. at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery near Spooner, WI.
