"Nothing compares to the love of a mother"
A tribute to our beloved Mother, Frances Hilda Hanson, 95 of Eau Claire, who passed away on Monday, June 13th. Fran was born on September 3, 1915 in Mondovi, Wisconsin (the second of eight children) to Herman and Inez (Pabst) Borgwardt. She married the love of her life, Lawrence (Pete) Hanson on February 27, 1932. Three children were born from this union. Pete died of Hodgkins disease on May 17, 1944.
After his death, our mother devoted her life to the care and upbringing of her young children which was not an easy task for a single Mom with no schooling beyond the 9th grade, but she never complained and always made us feel it was a joy to be our mother. She held various jobs (sometime two at a time), first at Presto and then at Uniroyal (on the assembly lines) followed by waitress work at several places-her favorite being “ The Swiss Chalet” where she worked for and with many good friends. On September 18, 1956, she was hired as a lab tech at Dairy Maid Milk Plant (now Land ‘O Lakes) in Eau Claire. They sent her to school and put her in charge of the lab and she worked there until she retired at age 62. She loved her job and the people she worked for and also had the good fortune of working with her dear friend Sylvia Hillestad for many years. Through all this, she was a dedicated mother and loving grandmother and had many good friends. She did all her own housework, decorated her home beautifully and entertained with a flourish. Whether she was entertaining family or friends, she was the ideal hostess known for her excellent food and beautiful table settings-and mostly for making everyone feel not only welcome, but very special.
