Sylvia L. Hillestad, age 91 of Eau Claire passed away early Sunday morning May 1, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Sylvia L. (Fagerland) Hillestad was born on July 8, 1919 in
Eleva, WI to Olaf and Louise Fagerland. She married Aubrey Hillestad on September 2, 1940. Sylvia had worked at Land’O Lakes and Myron’s Hallmark Cards.
She is survived by: son, Doug (Barb) Hillestad of Eau Claire and daughter, Judy (Jerry) Schrantz of Waukesha, WI; four grandchildren: Mike (Diana) Hillestad of
Hawi, HI, Dana (Greg Kempen) Hillestad of Eau Claire, Jon (Tracy) Schrantz of Waukesha, WI, and Julie (Ben) Hartley of Waukesha, WI; five great grandchildren: Emma, Tyler and Caleb Hartley of Waukesha, Amber Schrantz of Waukesha and Colin Bruley of Eau Claire; sister, Florence Olson; many cousins, nieces and nephews; special young friend, Avalon Chaffer of Escondido, CA and Tobin

Sylvia is preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Aubrey Hillestad; sister, Myrtle Anderson; and brothers, Gaylord, Merlin, Arnold and Ernie Fagerland.
Sylvia will be deeply missed. She loved to tell stories about the “OLD” days when life was much simpler. Some of the most humorous were about her annual trips out West with Aubrey, her sister Florence and brother-in-law, Mel. For some reason they called Las Vegas “Lost Wages”! A very frugal group of Norwegian’s to be sure!

God saw that she was getting tired
and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around her and whispered, “Come With Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched her
suffer and saw her fade away.
And tho we loved her dearly,
we could not ask her to stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove
to us He only takes the best.

Services For Sylvia will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2011 at Grace Lutheran
Church (202 W. Grand Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703), Eau Claire with Pastor David Irgens officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Inurnment will be in the Eleva Cemetery at 2:30 pm. Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
