Richard Owen Hillis, age 85 of Eau Claire passed away Monday January 31, 2011 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Memorial services will take place at 11 am on Saturday February 5, 2011 at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Rev. Brian Jahn with Spiritual Care Ministry at Luther Midelfort in Eau Claire will officiate. Burial will take place immediately following the services in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #53. Friends may visit at the funeral home an hour prior to the services on Saturday morning.
Richard was born in Galion, Ohio on September 3, 1925 to William and Amy (Orr)
Hillis. He graduated from Galion High School. In 1942, during World War II, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1948, he reenlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War and the Vietnam conflict with the
ASA. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 1974 after 30 years of military service. |

He married Jeannette Guy on April 1, 1945 in Galion, and they traveled the world together with the military. They lived in Fayetteville, NC until his retirement, when they moved to Medford, WI. Richard was a member of the Medford Masonic Lodge and they both were members of the Medford Eastern Star. In 1991, they moved to Eau Claire to be near their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeannette; son, Robert (Lillian); three grandchildren, Daniel, Lisa (Brian) and Samuel; and a great-grandchild, Kylie. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Richard's name to the Shriner's Hospital. Friends may offer condolences online at www.fullerspeckienhulke.com.
