Janet M. (Hebbe) Shasky, 90, 750 Mississippi River Blvd., St. Paul, MN
passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at her apartment in St. Paul,
MN.
Janet was born, at home, on April 1, 1921 to Lawrence and Henrietta (Yetta)
Hebbe in Fort Atkinson, WI. Henrietta was a huge fan of Janet Gaynor
and Janet was named after this movie star. Janet graduated from
Jefferson High School in 1939. Janet enjoyed repeating her mother’s
full name: Henrietta Anna Margaretta Fuerbringer Hebbe.
Janet married John L. Shasky on April 4, 1944 in Jefferson, WI. They
lived their entire married life in Eau Claire, WI. |

Janet is survived by two daughters, Marilynn (Mike) Balow of
Minnetonka, MN and Ann Knutson of St. Paul, MN; one son John (Kris)
Shasky of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Michelle Balow, Jeffery
(Teri) Balow, Brian (Andrew) Balow, Matthew Greife, and Timothy Greife;
eight great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded
in death by her parents, husband, son Steven and her sister Shirley.
Janet was an accomplished bookkeeper. She worked at Northwestern Bank, Putnum’s, and the Boy Scouts of America where she completed her career.
Janet enjoyed many hobbies. Her favorite past time was reading, where she often consumed a book per week. She was an accomplished bridge player. Janet competed in many duplicate bridge tournaments and earned her Life Masters-Gold at 86 years of age. She played the accordion, ukulele, and piano starting at the young age of 7. She enjoyed ceramics and all of her children have mementos from this past time. Janet enjoyed many happy years playing golf and she participated in related social events at Hillcrest Country Club. Janet led the Hillcrest team which crafted the very popular Hole In One Cookbook. Janet was very capable sewer and all the children have articles of clothing crafted by Janet which we continue to wear today.
But most of all, Janet was very kind and loving. She set the standard for family and friends. She was a faithful and loving mother. Janet gave generously of her time and love to her extended family and many friends. Holidays were always special. Christmas was Janet’s favorite and she decorated and cooked with zeal. Janet was active in the church and volunteered her time generously.
Services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire, WI, 54703. The Reverend Dr. Mark X. Pirazzini will officiate. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the start of services. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire at a later date.
